In May, the Kinsmen Club, Rotary Club, and The Pas Minor Hockey came together to discuss how to get funding together to have the Outdoor Rink in place as soon as possible. On Tuesday at the Rotary meeting, several announcements were made that will facilitate construction of the rink beginning once the snow has melted in the Spring.
The biggest announcement came from the Grub Box which has added $35,000 to the project account. “We were very excited to be able to contribute to another great resource for the youth of our town to access and use“ explained Bruce Morrish, owner of the Grub Box.
Other announcements included The Pas Minor Hockey committing $25,000 from their legacy fund, The Elks donating $5,000, and The Knights of Columbus $2,000. When combined with the previous commitments of $35,000 from The Rotary Club, $20,000 from the Kinsmen and $22,000 from The Town of the Pas funding is now in place for the project to commence.
“The Pas Kinsmen are excited to be working with all groups involved to get most of the funding in place for the outdoor rink.’ States Longtime Kinsmen and Rink Project Committee member Brent Colgan, “Unfortunately the weather has stopped us from getting the rink started this year. The Kinsmen and Rotary would like the public to know that the plan is to have an outdoor rink in place by next fall and that we will continue to fundraiser the remainder of the funds needed to make that happen.”
The Rink will be constructed on an asphalt pad behind the wellness center. It will include boards and lights making it a facility that can be used year-round for a variety of activities.
