Marathon for CF – Blog #1

On August 13 in Saint John, New Brunswick, I will be running 42.2 km in the Marathon by the Sea to raise awareness and funds to fight Cystic Fibrosis, and I need your help.

When you have Cystic Fibrosis, breathing is always a battle. Day in, day out, those living with CF have to use inhalers and puffers, take medication, get regular physiotherapy, and spend hours a day trying to clear out their lungs just so they can breathe the air they need to survive. Because of the constant buildup of mucous in their lungs and scarring damage from recurrent lung infections, for many it’s difficult to have the energy just to get through the day, and exercise like running is often a major struggle. As a proud member of Kin Canada – an organization devoted to finding a cure for CF – and an avid runner, I want to dedicate this marathon to the battle against CF, and hopefully raise some money in the process.

I have been training hard and running hundreds of kilometers since this March, and will continue to train until the race on August 13. I will then continue my journey east to the Kin Canada National Convention, where I will present the money that I’ve raised.

Here’s where you come in – I’ll do all the running, and 100% of donations I collect will go directly to Cystic Fibrosis Canada when I make my presentation in Halifax. Every dollar donated helps to fight and win the battle against Cystic Fibrosis.

There are many convenient options to donate:

– In person to either myself, my very patient and supportive wife Emma Halpin, or any Kinsmen Club of The Pas member
– Send a cheque or money order to Danny Halpin, PO Box 641, The Pas MB, R9A 1K7
– Send an e-transfer to dshalpin@gmail.com
– Tax receipts are available on request

I will be making regular blog posts and updates in the weeks leading up to the marathon, so be sure to stay in touch by adding “Marathon for CF” or “The Pas Kinsmen” on Facebook. You can also visit thepaskinsmen.ca to learn about some of our club’s other efforts to raise money for CF.
