120 + gathering in The Pas to celebrate another great Kin year.

On June 1st, over 120 Kinsmen, Kinettes and Kin club members from Manitoba and Northwest Ontario will descend upon The Pas to celebrate successes in 2016/17 and look forward to what is to come in 2017/18.

“It is always a thrill to gather with our Kin Family for the District Convention and this year to be able to host the convention, right here at home in The Pas; gives us the opportunity to showcase the work that our club does in our Tri-Council region and entertain our Kin Family in a true northern Trappers Festival feel, that so many visitors have experienced in our communities over the last 70 years,” says Kevin Carlson Kinsmen Club of The Pas President.

“Another special moment for this particular ‘Kinvention’ is the fact that we will welcome a half a dozen members from the District’s newest club, the North of 56 Kin Club in Leaf Rapids, to this event and as the Kinsmen Club of The Pas are their Charter sponsors, it is like welcoming your younger brothers and sisters home,” concludes Carlson.

Awards will be given out for membership growth, communications, and service projects. The Pas Kinsmen have nomination in just about every category they are eligible for. One of these awards that we already know is Mike Roberts receiving the GEM award. ‘I am so proud to be a member of the Pas Kinsmen and tell my friends about how great it is because I truly believe it.’ states Roberts, ‘the fact that three great friends joined the club this year to help serve the community’s greatest needs is rewarding by itself. Being recognized by Kin Canada and getting a GEM award for it is just icing on the cake.’

There will also be meetings to go over financials, reports and bylaws throughout the day on Friday and Saturday, a chance for the delegates to get out and see the town with groups going golfing, fishing and just relaxing about town.

The highlight of the event for The Pas Kinsmen will of course be the Governor’s Ball on Saturday night at the legion. This not only an event where the delegates dress up and celebrate their year but the 2017/18 District Executive will be sworn in. ‘We are beyond excited to have Dave Roberts become the next Governor for District 2 and hopefully take the spirit and passion that we have for Kin in The Pas to the other clubs in District 2,’ says life member and convention chair, Darrell Hogue, ‘Last year when Dave accepted the nomination for Vice Governor, the club just knew we needed to host Convention and have him sworn in her at home.’

In 2015/16, the Pas Kinsmen provided $29,035 in donations and support to community groups and 3,187 volunteer hours. We look forward to growing and providing even more in 2016/17.
